Circular Pool - water cascades down a steep, heavily with fern covered, terraced canyon wall into picturesque Circular Pool.

The dark turquoise coloured water contrasts nicely with the bright red canyon walls. This pool is an oasis in the very dry and arid Pilbara region and the cool and moist air allows lush plant life where normally only gum trees can survive. Rocks exposed at the gorges in Karijini originated as fine grained sediment which accumulated on an ancient sea floor 2500 million years ago. At this time the atmosphere contained much less oxygen and the only forms of life were simple bacteria and algae. Many of these sediments laid down in the oceans were rich in iron and silica. Over hundreds of millions of years, the iron-rich deposits were transformed by the pressure of further sediments laid down over them, and the gradually turned into tough well-bedded rock. The gorges were eroded when a sharp drop in sea level caused the rivers to downcut rapidly-a process enhanced by the onset of a more arid climate, which depleted the protective vegetation cover on the valley sides

Environmentally and ozone friendly, 40mm wide x 15mm Polycore® moulding has the look of real wood, is durable and light and easy to hang. Biodegradable and made with non-chlorinated gases (no toxic fumes) it is efficient; producing 100 tons of polystyrene can save 300 tons of trees! Prints are glazed with lightweight, shatterproof, optical clarity acrylic (providing the same general protection from the environment as glass). The back is stapled hardboard with a sawtooth hanger attached. Note: measurements provided are estimated outer dimensions, which include both the image and the frame.
